Shropshire Master Composters are volunteers who help to encourage home composting and other forms of waste prevention. The group was established in 2006. Over 75 volunteers have since graduated from a specialist course which is delivered by Garden Organic with funding and support from Shropshire Council and Veolia Shropshire. There are volunteers across Shropshire (and Telford). They aim to encourage composting in their local community. They attend events as diverse as school assemblies, farmers markets, flower shows, green days, village fetes and music festivals. They have also been involved in environmental education projects, making video guides, establishing new allotments and setting up community composting schemes! Each year we get invited to hundreds of events, far more than we can attend. So we're always on the look out for more help. If you are interested in gardening, the environment and particularly composting, and willing to give some of your time then you could help. Full training and support is provided. If you are interested in volunteering, please ring us on 01743 255989 or e-mail waste@shropshire.gov.uk

Did you know? Every household in Shropshire produces a tonne of waste each year! Two-thirds of this is biodegradable and half is suitable for home composting. So home composting is the single most important thing we can do to be greener with our waste. By home composting you stop material ever entering the waste stream helping to save money and the environment.
